The
following are some good tips to help you decorate your
tree this Christmas:
- Your tree should convey a
great visual impact on every person to come to your
home, as your tree will be standing in the house
till the end of the festive season. The size of your
room will have to determine what size tree you can
get.
- Decide what you want your tree
to look like. You will need more decorations and
ornaments if your tree has many branch tips. If you
want a formal-looking tree, get one which has
down-swept branches and short needles, while you
should buy a tree which has upswept branches and
long needles if you want it to look informal.
- Lighting should be focused on.
The thumb rule to decide how many lights you should
arrange for is that 40-50 lights are needed for a
one foot tree. The easiest way to go would be to buy
a pre-lit tree, which would involve no trouble and
could be stored easily too. However, if you prefer
to do the lights yourself, hanging them inside the
tree produces a nice, sparkling effect. Try to keep
the lights uniformly spaced without any unfilled
gaps.
- Adding a garland to the tree
would be a nice touch, whether it is the
conventional garland or a beaded one. Swag the
garland from the top to the bottom and also around
the back of the tree to achieve a traditional look.
The width of the tree will decide the swag of the
garland. By twisting the garland at the tip, it will
be smaller as it reaches the tree top. You could
also double-swag your garland and make it into a
sort of spiral garland. You could also use a ribbon
and drape it from the top to the bottom.
- Using fillers will give the
tree a nice look.
- Using a colour scheme, of one
or two complementary colours will make the tree look
coordinated and beautiful. Red and gold, and pink
and white combinations could be tried out. Ornaments
and garlands should match this scheme.
- Use personal items as
ornaments to create a unique look.
- Handmade ornaments from your
childhood, or made by your family are a must.
They’ll be great additions.
- The base of the tree should be
covered with a pretty tree skirt so that the gifts
rest on a nice background.
- Top the tree with an angel,
star, bow, or whatever else you wish.
