The
Artificial Christmas Tree
When
it comes to Christmas trees, the artificial Christmas
tree really never gets its due. For example, of all the
classic Christmas episodes of television programs how
many times have you ever seen the cast of characters
rally around an artificial tree? This is definitely
enough to give an artificial tree an inferiority
complex! Of course, artificial trees certainly aren’t
that bad. If they were they would never have survived as
long as they did and they have been around a long, long
time. In fact, they have been around a lot longer than
most people would think.
The
first artificial Christmas trees first appeared in
Germany in the 1800’s and was made of dyed goose
feathers and was generally very small in size. (The
reason these trees were designed was because of concerns
over deforestation resulting from random harvesting of
trees) Thanks to the people at the Sears & Roebuck
Company, these trees were introduced into the United
States in 1913. Eventually, paint brush companies picked
up on this concept and started to produce artificial
trees where the bristles of the “tree” were made by
the same bristles used to make brushes. These trees
proved wildly popular as the public found a number of
benefits in them. The popularity of these trees
continued to expand over the years despite the fact that
these trees never really did get a fair shake in popular
culture. Then again, there is a difference between
perceived images and the benefits that are present in
actual reality.
There
are a number of tremendous benefits to owning an
artificial Christmas tree with convenience and variety
being major factors behind their success. The most
common reasons are, of course, that artificial Christmas
trees can be packed up and stored away and then reused
the next season and the next season after that.
Additionally, artificial trees do not require any
special caretaking that natural trees require. Also,
artificial Christmas trees can come in a variety of
shapes and size so if you want a Christmas tree that
looks like the one from A CHARLIE BROWN CHRISTMAS you
can find one with ease! Now, this is not to say that one
is better than the other. Often, it is circumstances and
personal preferences that dictate whether one’s home
is more suited for an artificial tree vs. a natural one.
