Valentine's Day for Single People

Valentine’s Day is one of the more popular holidays of the year and this is because it celebrates one of our most prized emotions: love. Now, who does not want to be loved and who does not enjoy making expressions of love? Yes, people want to be loved and they enjoy expressing love. This is why couples look so very much forward to Valentine’s Day. Of course, this brings us to the very obvious question: What happens to people who are single during Valentine’s Day? Often, Valentine’s Day is considered a day for single people to rue. In fact, there is a very cruel nickname given to the single person’s celebration of Valentine’s Day.

So what is the common name for people who are single during Valentine’s Day? Black Valentine’s Day. Now, is that an ominous, dark and foreboding name or what? Think of what images it brings to mind: a day of sadness, depression, loneliness and despair. This is clearly the opposite presentation of what is commonly considered the proper emotional responses associated with Valentine’s Day such as bright, cheery and upbeat moments. Yes, the inference with the term Black Valentine’s Day is fairly obvious: if you are single during Valentine’s day then your life is not worth living. Ok, maybe that is somewhat of a stretch, but the fact remains there is a social stigma associated with being single during Valentine’s Day and to a great extent that image only has power that is given to it.

Keep in mind, if you are single and do not want to be Valentine’s Day is a perfect time of the year to start a relationship. In fact, there are usually a number of social settings that are designed for singles to get together and meet up on Valentine’s Day. One such example would be the great number of bars and nightclubs that will offer a special Valentine’s Day singles night for those looking to meet someone. Now, if bars and clubs are not your thing there are even a number of coffee shops and even shopping marts that can offer the same social functions.

Additionally, if you are not into going out that is fine because the internet is full of online social networking sites and these sites can make interacting with people much easier than ever before. The internet has become a hug hub of social activity and there are very few limitations these days when it comes to being able to interact with people online and this is a really good thing for singles. So, yes, there will probably be an online Valentine Day’s Singles Party happening somewhere so why not take advantage of it?

If anything, the holiday of Valentine’s Day should never be a time of the year to wallow in self pity or anger. If this is how you are feeling because you are single then you need to shake out of it and click your heels together and change your situation. Yes, this may be a simplified statement, but sometimes it is the simple things that really work.
