Valentine's
Day celebrations around the World
Valentine’s
Day is a special day, not only for a specific nation,
but also for the whole world. A recent survey on some
young people from 18 different nations disclosed
different approaches that mark this auspicious day.
The
result of this survey revealed that the most appreciated
way to celebrate this day is by presenting gifts,
chocolates, flowers and spending some precious time with
the beloved. Besides this, different countries have
different customs for this day.
Some
Interesting Approaches
In
Vietnam, couples wear costumes having same color and
style. There is an interesting way to celebrate this day
in Japan. They have two Valentine’s Days. On 14th
February, girls present dark chocolate to the boys they
are interested in. On 14th March, boys
present cookies and white chocolate to the young girls.
In Spain, only those people can exchange gifts that are
in love with someone.
Celebrating
under restrictions
In
countries like Bangladesh, Nepal and India, there are
some restrictions on this day. The young crowd from
colleges celebrates this day freely, but the ones from
high schools are restricted to celebrate this lover’s
day. Still, the young folks find ways to exchange love
messages with each other. If caught, they face a hard
time as their parents and school authorities strictly
warn them. It might be surprising to know that most
people in Ethiopia and China are not aware of
Valentine’s day and comes to know about it when visit
other countries.
Play
a Game
The
people from parts like the Dominican Republic and El
Salvador unveiled that the friends and family members
play games together. In the Dominican Republic, the game
played is called “Angelito”. The people here write
the name of the person they like on the piece of paper
and then present his/her “angelito” some gift. In El
Salvador the same game is played with a different name.
Here it is called “Amigo Secreto” which means a
secret friend.
Enjoy
the Scottish style
The
custom for celebrating Valentine’s Day in Scotland is
a bit different. A function is organized and young men
and women are invited on it in same number. Everyone has
to dictate his or her name on a plain paper and put it
in a cap after folding it. The women take out a slip
from cap and same practice is followed by men. The names
chosen in this way may not match but men and women are
supposed to be with their selected partners. The males
offer gifts to females after this. The names of male
partners are fixed by women on their sleeves. The
wedding ceremony is very common after the practice of
couple dance party. There is one more trend in Scotland
it is that the very first man and woman meet by chance
on road is considered valentine of opposite one. The
presents of Valentine's Day are exchanged by men and
women as a symbol of love.
