Huichol Yarn and Bead Art

We just added a great selection of Huichol Yarn and Bead art to our website. We even added a new category so you can see it all together. For the first time ever, we now have Huichol Yarn animals. These are just like our bead art, but made with yarn instead. Selection includes amazing little jaguar heads as pictured here.

The Huichol Indians have used decorative art pieces as offerings to the Gods for centuries. These inspired pieces of art are created with colorful yarns painstakingly placed on a beeswax and pine resin mixture that was spread on a wooden base. Along with the artists signature on the back of this piece the artist has written... in Spanish... an explanation of the symbolism of the art. The Indians work their spiritual symbols and designs into each piece.

Coming Soon - Japanese Puzzle Boxes

In the town of Hakone Japan craftsmen practice an art form that has been passed down through the generations. This famous art is called Himitsu-Bako, or Japanese Secret Box also know as Puzzle Boxes. These amazing boxes only open if you know how to move the various panels in a very specific order. They range from boxes that open with only 4 moves, to boxes that can take up to 72 moves.

Three different workshops in Hakone are currently preparing our orders for shipment. We should have them available in September with a nice variety of designs and prices to fit every budget. These make great gift items.

Bone Netsuke Now Available - Only $19.95

We just added a new category and assortment to our Netsuke section for Bone Netsuke. For years, we have had offers to buy bone netsuke but they were always either to primative in the carvings or full of seams from pieces being glued together, or just not nice enough to for us to sell. Finally, we found a carver that takes the time to select only good pieces of bone with a nice finish and does what we feel is a great job with both the carving and the extensive scrimshaw work on each pieces.

They are pproximately 2 to 2-1/2 inches tall… have the netsuke holes in the back … and are signed by the artist.
