Paintings - The art of the Chinese scroll
painting dates back at least 4,000 years. This
art form is considered by many people as the highpoint aesthetically speaking

the same tools used for the scrolls.

HUICHOL YARN ART
View our Yarn Art from Mexico - Nestled in the
Sierra de Nayarit, just north of Guadalajara, Mexico, you will find
approximately 12,000 Huichol (Wee-Chol) Indians, a tribe believed to descend
from the Aztec Indians. This area
of Mexico is remote and rugged, and home to one of the last tribes to exist
under the Spanish rule. The Huichol
Indians still follow pagan beliefs, consider deer a sacred animal, grow corn,
which is thought to be the source of all life, and use a form of communication
called peyote. Because of this, the
core of the Huichol Indians consist of deer, corn, and peyote.

TAGUA CARVINGS FROM PANAMA
Shop our Tagua
Carvings - Imported directly
from the Native Indian Artists that created these little masterpieces. Choose
from Animals, Fish, Birds, and Reptiles - all native to the country of Panama
that the carvings come from. The
tagua nut has a strong resemblance to animal ivory, making it a wonderful
resource for creating all types of beautiful things.
For many years, the tagua nut was used primarily for making buttons but
with new technology and more affordable materials such as plastics, a decline
began. Even so, the tagua nut still
has value in the making of other things to include chess set pieces, jewelry,
handles for canes, dice, figurines, etc.

FIMO CLAY SCULPTURES
Shop our Fimo
Sculpture - These beautiful and
artistic animals are created with fimo clay. Many different colors of fimo clay
are used in each design. Colored canes of clay are used to create an
illustration. The central design is repeatedly stretched and cut as other
designs are added. Just as in nature simplicity is replicated over and over
until the finished organism becomes quite complex. The composite image is
finally reduced by stretching to the size of a small coin and then cut and
applied much like mosaic tiles to the animals form. Each and every stage of the
process is done by hand. Because each piece is hand made no two pieces are
exactly a like.

History
of Cupid - If there was a figure that was most
associated with St. Valentine’s Day it would be the character of
Cupid, the small “angel” who holds a bow and arrow and if he
hits you with the arrow you will be “forced” into falling in
love. This is quite an interesting concept that people can
recognize Cupid upon sight, yet has absolutely no idea what St.
Valentine looks like! Part of the reason for this is that there
are 11 St. Valentine’s honored with Valentine’s Day so it
would not be accurate to establish a single look for St. Valentine
and with the lack of a strong visual image of a particular
character paved the way for Cupid to become the character that is
most singularly associated with the holiday. However, despite so
many millions of people being familiar with the image of Cupid,
most people are not familiar with whom or what Cupid actually is.

The
history of the Valentine card - If you walk into
any gift shop during early February it would be next to impossible
to not see all the Valentine’s Day cards on sale. After all, the
sheer volume of Valentine’s Day cards that are sold during
February are second only to Christmas in terms of dollar amounts.
Now, some people may assume that when they see these cards that
there is a product of the modern era. This is not accurate as
these cards have been around in one form or another since the
Middle Ages.

Valentine
Symbols - Most holidays have their own unique
symbols whose purpose is to provoke a certain emotional and
sentimental response out of those people who view the symbols.
Christmas has its Christmas trees and mistletoes. Halloween has
its Jack O’Lanterns. Valentine’s Day, of course, has its
images of hearts, cupids, roses and other symbols that are most
associated with love and romance. During the first two weeks of
February we will see these symbols on display in all manner of
decorations and while we automatically come to accept them as
symbolic of the Valentine’s Day celebration, we never really
stop and think about the meaning behind these symbols or their
origins. Well, perhaps it is about time took a step back and
examined what they represent and where the come from.
